Summer Sunset
A drop in temperature
Perceived with a smile.
A breeze is truly a caress when the small branches barely move an inch,
And the leaves dance to a much slower rhythm.
A summer eve with the soundtrack of crickets,
Friends and families.
The clouds are all darker now,
Not just the ones dense with moisture, who
Create room for the potential of thunder.
But the clouds that have a pale darkness,
A silver-gray hue, naturally darkened by a falling sun,
Are softer saying good evening.
And then the first flash of lightning,
Not unwelcome, but
Admittedly more aggressive.
The rumble incites a soulful vigilance
That balances the total acceptance of the night
Brought by the rose and peach downy
Of late-sunset clouds.
The soul, with a peaceful eye
Watches with anticipation
The sky.
